Chris Roberts: Chris' Group

Chris has been coaching with the Marlins for more than a decade! He is dedicated to our highest competitive group, Performance. Working with this group he has brought swimmers to both National and International Competitions. On top of working for the Marlins, he is also Co-Head Coach of the Memorial University Seahawks Swim Team. Due to his dedication to the sport of swimming, he earned himself the 2022 Swim NL Coach of the Year. He has also been NCCP Level 3 trained. We are excited to see what Chris, swimmers accomplish this year.

Duffy Earle: Orange A

Duffy has been coaching with the Marlins since 2007! Duffy is the Mount Pearl Marlins Head Coach and Orange A’s coach. She has coached kids of all ages and skill sets. She oversees every group, ensuring peak performance from all swimmers on the team. Duffy is Co-Head Coach of the Memorial Seahawks Swim Team AND has been head coach of Team NL Swim Team at the past 2 Canada Games quads. She has completed her NCCP Level 3 certification, making her the ONLY swim coach to have this certification in Newfoundland. This hard work has earned Duffy the Sport NL Female Coach of the Year for 2022. She has been able to coach swimmers to the national level and leaves a lasting impact on the swimmers she works with! 

Felix Sheppard: Orange B/Blue A

Felix brings 13 years in the water and 3 years on deck to the Marlins. He currently coaches Orange B/Blue A, where he loves helping swimmers set and reach their goals while keeping practice fun. As a current member of the Memorial University Seahawks Swim Team, Felix brings an active athlete’s perspective to every session and creates a positive, encouraging pool environment. He’s excited to support Orange B/Blue A through another great season!

Megan Holden: White 1

Megan is in her 4th season coaching with the Marlins and currently leads White 1. She’s worked with groups from Blue A to Mini, drawing on 10 years as a Marlins swimmer herself. Now in her 4th year of eligibility with the Memorial University Seahawks varsity swim team, Megan brings a current athlete’s perspective to training. She loves helping swimmers grow in skill and confidence, learn how to train and race effectively, and reach their personal goals. Fun fact: she’s raced against several swimmers who are now Olympians!

Laura Taylor: White 1

Laura brings 12+ years of coaching experience to the pool, working with swimmers of all ages and skill levels. She has coached with the Mount Pearl Marlins and the Memorial University Sea-Hawks, and served as an assistant coach for Team NL at the 2022 Canada Summer Games. An NCCP Level 2 coach and a current classroom teacher, Laura blends strong technical knowledge with a passion for athlete development, building a positive, inclusive team culture where swimmers feel they belong and passing on the love of sport that shaped her life. Fun fact: she once swam to Bell Island in support of mental health.

Dylan Gambin-Murphy:
​​​​​​​White 1/Masters

Dylan coaches White 2 and Masters, bringing 5 years on deck and 9 years in the water (including 5 with the Marlins). He’s completed his NCCP Swim 101 and draws on lessons from his own coaches to shape a positive, productive environment. Dylan loves passing along knowledge to younger swimmers, making practices enjoyable while still pushing his groups to be their best. He’s currently studying French at Memorial University with plans to become a teacher.

Nathan O'Connell: Gold 1/Mighty

Nathan is in his 4th year coaching with the Marlins and his 3rd as a competitive coach, leading Gold 1 and Mighty. He focuses on getting to know each swimmer and building a positive, focused practice environment that drives steady improvement and keeps the sport fun. His goal is to support athletes so they can become the best swimmers they can be. Fun fact: Nathan is studying HKR and other sport and fitness courses at Memorial University.

Hope Canning: Gold 2

Hope is in her 5th season coaching with the Marlins and currently leads Gold 2. Before stepping on deck as a coach, she swam with the Marlins for 5 years and volunteer coached for 2. She enjoys helping swimmers reach their goals, feel proud of their results, and develop toward their full potential. Hope is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in French and English at Memorial University with plans to become a teacher. Fun fact: she plays multiple instruments, about four and counting.

Emma Bishop: Mighty/Mini/Masters

Emma is the Pre-Comp Coordinator and coaches Mighty, Mini Marlins Group 3, and the new Marlins Masters program. A Marlins alum who swam for 7 years through high school, she has taught swimming lessons for 5 years and is excited to coach this season. She loves seeing swimmers improve their technique and speed while having fun, and she brings an energy that helps kids show up excited to swim. Fun fact: Emma also plays and teaches piano.

Jolie Carter: Mighty/Mini

Jolie is in her first year coaching with the Marlins, leading Mighty Marlins on Mondays and Thursdays and Mini Marlins on Tuesdays. She coached at Marlins camp this past summer, swam as a Marlin for almost 10 years, and volunteered with younger groups for 2 years. Jolie’s favourite part of coaching is building individual relationships, watching swimmers improve over time, and helping them fall in love with the team and the sport. Fun facts: she’s a senior in high school, has taken voice lessons for 6 years, and her sibling Alex also coaches Mini Marlins.

Kiera Hyde: Mighty/Mini

Kiera swam with the Marlins for 12 years and is now a rookie with the Varsity Seahawks Swim Team. In her first year on deck, she coaches the Mighty and Mini Marlins programs, bringing a lifelong love of the sport and a fresh athlete’s perspective. Kiera is excited to help younger swimmers improve, build confidence, and share her passion for swimming. Fun fact: she used to play soccer!

Alex Carter: Mini

Alex Carter coaches Mini Marlins. A Marlins alum who joined in 2013 and swam competitively for several years, Alex’s standout memories include meets in Quebec and Nova Scotia, and they continue to enjoy the sport through the Mount Pearl Marlins Masters program. Alex loves watching kids grow, learn new skills, and have fun as a team. Fun facts: Alex has two sphynx cats that hate swimming, comes from a longtime Marlins family, and is excited to coach alongside their sister Jolie.

Kailey Murrin: Mighty

Kailey is in her first year coaching with the Marlins and leads the Mighty group. She swam with the Marlins for 10 years and spent 2 years with Memorial University Swimming, and she loves sharing her knowledge and skills to help swimmers improve and reach their full potential. Fun fact: Kailey is a third-year behavioural neuroscience student at Memorial University and has a 14-year-old Shih Tzu named Scibbles.
